Just like everyone else in the world, we at Grazia Daily are big fans of the Millennium Trilogy books. And the films. Watching Noomi Rapace bring Steig Larsson’s heroine Lisbeth Salander to life in the Swedish version was the most perfect casting, so we must admit we had our doubts when relatively unknown actress, Rooney Mara, was cast in the American version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, alongside Daniel Craig.
Whenever she’s appeared in the public eye before, Rooney’s been very much a frilly dress, nude shoe and perfect basic make-up, kind of a girl. So how far was she willing to go to become Lisbeth? Well the whole way it would seem, judging by the latest pictures of her. Earlier this week she appeared on the red carpet, and her black asymmetric crop gave a hint of what we can expect. Then the full transformation was revealed in W magazine just days later.
Black hair? Check. Piercings? Check. Tattoos? Check. Fierce kohl eyes? Check. Leathers a go-go? Check. Unnecessary blood on hands? Check. So, for now, we forgive Noomi for deciding to do Sherlock Holmes 2 rather than reprise the role she made her own, as we are safe in the knowledge that Rooney at least looks the part. But until the film is released we are reserving judgement. Honest.
