On the day that Alber Elbaz’s Pre Fall collection for Lanvin hit the internet, some brilliant quotes from the designer himself have also been circulated. Lets start with the interview with Paper magazine, where he chatted about the H&M collection EVERYONE was talking about – ‘It was an experiment. I wanted to learn something from it. I felt that there is a huge group of people who never could afford Lanvin. I didn't really want to make Lanvin cheaper, though, but I decided I was going to try to turn H&M into luxury,’ All we can say on the subject Monsieur Elbaz, is – we’re jolly glad you did decide to go for it. He also was really humble about his roles as a designer, and his place in the grand scheme of things; ‘We are dressmakers and coat makers, and we have to be here to cater to people and help them look and feel good. It's not about reinventing the wheel. It's about making people comfortable.’
AND, although he’s made comments along these lines before, we ALWAYS love it (and believe him) when he makes comments like ‘As a designer who is not exactly skinny, I am very sensitive to comfort because I am not comfortable anywhere or with anything,’ adding ‘I never had a muse or said, 'Oh my God, my woman is that and that and she has to be seven and a half feet tall and she has to weigh three kilograms,' Bless! But to look at his collections, you can see that he is sincere.

“And more and more I see women saying to me that they don’t go out at night much, but that they love all these flamboyant dresses to be worn during the day. And I’m saying it’s almost like those amazing dishes that we only serve when we have guests. So use it every day; use it in the morning, use it when you feel like, use it when you’re by yourself. So this is the story.”
We LOVE that idea – also known as never save your best for best. We’re going to start wearing our best Lanvin to the office and round Tescos. *Cough* OK then, our best Lanvin for H&M!
