Er, wow. Team Grazia Daily has spent most of this morning gawping at Reese Witherspoon's colossal engagement ring. Look at the SIZE of that thing! Not since the Taylor-Burton diamond has one rock possessed such jaw-dropping proportions.
The background to the ring is this: Reese, (formerly Mrs Ryan Philippe), became engaged over the festive season to her agent Jim Toth.
It seems Toth, (whose earnings, let's be honest, must partly have come from his fiancee's successful movie career) proposed with a whopping 4-carat ring set on a platinum band studded with pave diamonds. For those who are not fluent in diamondese, a carat represents a diamond's weight (not size - a common misconception). And it's the weight of a diamond that most impacts its price. In short, this ring would cost a FORTUNE.
Reese's representative has revealed that Toth worked closely with 'Hollywood jeweller' William Goldberg to create the ring.
And that gigantic rock? It's an Ashoka-cut diamond, which is a rectangular antique cushion shape.
Never heard of an Ashoka-cut diamond? Neither had we, but that may be because they are so unusual. The Ashoka cut can only be produced from long rough stones that are three carats or larger. According to Goldberg, Ashoka-worthy stones are extremely rare and less than 10 per cent of raw diamonds can be cut like Reese's engagement ring was.
Anyway, the 34-year-old actress was pictured front row at a basketball match last night, showing off her flashy bauble with every hand clap. Good for her. And we just can't keep our eyes off that baby. We've very much enjoyed Ms Witherspoon's acting over the years, but we've never really regarded her as much of a style icon. Until now.
What do you think of Reese's mega-diamond? Fabulously glamorous or ridiculously flashy?
