So, you will remember that Grazia Daily TOTALLY called this back in December, but it’s just been officially announced that the delightful Blake Lively is to be the new face of Chanel’s Mademoiselle handbag line, which Karl Lagerfeld unveiled at the Chanel cruise show last May.
After being introduced to Lively by Anna Wintour before the Chanel couture show in July (im-A-gine). Karl described Lively as ‘a kind of American dream girl’, saying that the shoot for the handbag line, which took place at the Chanel Rue Cambon HQ, ‘was an easy job because everyone fell in love with her’.
Lively follows in the footsteps of Lily Allen and Vanessa Paradis and in becoming the face of Chanel handbags and is understandably enthusiastic about her appointment, describing it thusly: ‘How did Cinderella feel when she slipped on the glass slipper? How did Snow White feel when she met her Prince Charming?’ A dream come true is an understatement. I can say that I feel like the happiest, luckiest girl around’.
Continuing her animated pitch, Lively added that ‘though I am the face of it [the mademoiselle bag], I will carry it like every girl’ (for dear life, right?) ‘I will always feel it’s more than just a purse. It’s a quilted case full of lipstick, love letters and the dreams and possibilities that I have always felt every time I see that beautiful ‘CC.’
Some styles of the quilted Mademoiselle bag are in stores already, retailing from between around £1,250 to £19,000 for exotic skin models. Blakey’s ad campaign is rumoured to be appearing in magazines from April, so watch this space for your first look!
