Julia Restoin Roitfeld shoots herself in Tom Ford's S/S'11 collection!

30 December 2010

They're the most coveted - and secretive - creations of S/S '11; the jaw-dropping designs that every Fashion Editor wants to shoot/wear/own. Nope, we're not talking meat dresses or light-up gowns; we are, of course, referring to Tom Ford's womenswear line, which was the talk of the town at New York Fashion Week. Ever since, juicy sneak peeks have trickled onto the blogosphere and Grazia Daily has been relishing every last morsel. First, we squealed over Steven Meisel's images of the ’70s-inspired garments. Then came the catwalk shots of Ford's 'Swans' strutting their stuff in his custom-made creations. Next, Lara Stone's interpretation caused an almighty fash-off. And now, it's Julia Restoin Roitfeld's turn.

As you can see, the results are just as sensual as you'd expect and, get this fash-fans, not only did Julia bravely don the couture-like collection, but the shots are her very own handy work. Yep, JRR used her talents both in front and behind the camera to create these stunning self-portraits. That's one brave lady, no?

She also sat down with the man himself for a interview to accompany the images in V Magazine (we reckon having Carine Roitfeld, aka Mr Ford's best buddy, as your maman may have something to do with this, especially as it coincides so perfectly with her recent resignation...). But, of course, we already know the designer is a huge fan of Roitfeld Jnr after casting her as the face of his Black Orchid fragrance in 2006 and, as the interview reveals, she was among his catwalk cast of superstars. Oh, to be a Roitfeld...

And yet the question of all questions remains - does Jules pull off the bespoke pieces? Let's investigate...

For starters, having already seen this fringed dress on redhead Karen Elson and blonde bombshell Stone, we can't help but wonder whether Julia's dark beauty has the power to bring the cobalt blue tone to life...

BUT, Julia's hardly the average model - 'I'm not really model-skinny,' she told Grazia Daily when we met her earlier this year - so it's almost unfair to compare. And let's not forget that the message of Ford's show was 'real clothes for real women' and, as his assortment of Swans proved, uniqueness is the key to wearing his wares. He tells his interviewer-slash-muse, 'It was about individuality, different body types, women who have their own style.' Well, Jules certainly as heaps of that, as well as attitude in the bucket-load (must be that Carine-mini-me thing again). Oh, and those shades are pretty fierce, too.

So how about this one? Ford's sparkling design for Beyonce embodies her blinging bootiliciousness so it's interesting to see how Julia's brought her own seductive spin to it, dontcha think? We say it's film noir perfection. CR, you've taught her well.

And finally, JRR poses in this saucy see-through number created by Ford for actress Rita Wilson. At 54 years old, Mrs Tom Hanks wowed the fash pack with her killer curves (which the designer notoriously fondled), and Julia's followed suit by making the most of her own feminine wiles by wearing it while perching provocatively on the sofa, as you do. And there you have it, ladies, we can be glamorous at every age. If you have Mr Ford's creations to hand, that is.

So now that we've seen Julia turn the collection into a wardrobe fit for a femme fatale, who'll be next to dare to wear it? And, as Ford's fashion smack down continues, when-oh-when (if ever?) will we see it on the red carpet? We (of course) wait with baited breath...
