WOW! Leighton Meester is the new face of Missoni!

21 December 2010

Morning Upper East Siders, what exciting news we have for you today! Leighton Meester, she of Gossip Girl fame and super-glossy locks, is set to be the new face of Missoni. Hip hip hooray!

The actress, who's currently starring alongside Gwyneth Paltrow in 'Country Song', is set to bring a fresh, youthful edge to the Italian brand's S/S ’11 campaign - and judging by these bejeweled Missoni frocks that she's sported on the red carpet, Grazia Daily reckons it'll be the perfect fit.

What’s more, Leighton’s got that laid-back, hippy-esque air down to a T and, via Blair Waldorf’s wardrobe, we know she can pull off an array of colours and funky patterns. In fact, we can already picture her slotting in beautifully with the tight-knit (chortle!) Missoni family, not least because there's an air of the Margherita about her, dontcha think?

Of course, we'll have to wait until early next year for a first look at the final results. Oh, and did we mention that's exactly when a certain Blake-Lively-for-Chanel campaign will be landing? Eeep, it's gonna be zigzag knits v pastel tweed at dawn...

It's like a scene right out of our telly boxes, right? Two beautiful young women, apparently best buddies, battling it out to become Queen Bee. Because as the fash pack falls more in love with La Lively, her Gossip Girl co-star has found it somewhat harder to keep up.

Blake has spent 2010 schmoozing with Karl Lagerfeld, having Louboutins named after her, topping Best Dressed lists and bagging FROW spots alongside Anna Wintour, while Leighton's sartorial triumphs have been a little, er, less impressive. Yes, she did land the Herbal Essences campaign, and a much coveted deal with Vera Wang fragrance, but this is the first time a major fashion label has enlisted Meest's star-wattage. (Could this have something to do with it, we wonder, or perhaps this?)

As a ‘source’ tells E!, ‘She wants to be high-end like Blake.’ And with Missoni's backing, we have every faith she will be.
