So we brought you the gossip as it happened direct from the red carpet at last night's British Fashion Awards, but what exactly were the style elite wearing, we hear you cry? Here's what...
Victoria Beckham may not have picked up an award at the ceremony but she certainly triumphed in the style stakes. We saw her jetting to the UK in an enormous noir coat yesterday and she stuck to the head-to-toe black effect for the red carpet thanks to this uber-elegant gown. Although Grazia Daily predicted she'd wear something from her S/S '11 collection, we had hoped she'd mix it up a notch by sporting a vibrant hue, especially considering she wore an almost identical frock for last year's BFAs... But hey, you can't have everything and that saucy thigh-high flash leading to a pair of Brian Atwood Dante heels more than makes up for it.
When we accosted Alexa Chung on the red carpet, she told us this glorious Chanel frock from Karl's S/S '11 catwalk was the perfect choice because she likes to 'dress like a five year old' - and she certainly looks sweet as pie! She teamed the frock with polka dot tights, Prada platforms and, of course, a classic Chanel bag.
Claudia Schiffer sure loves her digital prints, doesn't she? Last year, we spotted the supermodel in a Peter Pilotto frock and this time round, it was Mary Katrantzou's sensational creations she was championing. Katrantzou's A/W '10 show provided a new twist on the popular geometric designs, and the sash effect on this dress proves just that. It's brilliantly original without being bonkers.
As the current face of the brand, it was no surprise to see Lara Stone in Calvin Klein Collection. This white jersey drape dress is from the Resort 2011 collection and positively exudes the elegant simplicity CK is famous for - what more could you need? Hmm, maybe the Model of the Year award to accessorise the look, perhaps? What a lucky girl. Don't forget to check out our chat with the gap-toothed beauty after she picked up the honour right here.
Peter Pilotto's S/S '11 collection was one of our favourite shows this London Fashion Week so it's no wonder Thandie Newton opted to wear one of their graceful designs. When Grazia Daily met the lovely actress on the red carpet, she was wrapped up warm in a black Stella McCartney blazer and when we asked why she'd chosen to wear the colourful number underneath, she explained, 'I was very lucky to have a few different options and I tried this on and I fell madly in love with it...It just felt right for tonight.' Well we concur, Ms Newton.
Onto another supermodel, here's Ms Naomi Campbell. While she was honoured for her influence and contribution to the fashion industry over the past 25 years, Naomi simultaneously paid tribute to her late friend Alexander McQueen by wearing a gown from the designer's successor, Sarah Burton (read how Naomi remembers McQueen here). The sparkling embellishments around the neckline provide a truly regal effect while the sumptuous velvet and sheer chiffon are super sophisticated. Oh, and she wisely warded off the winter chill with a snug Dennis Basso shrug. We couldn't imagine a more fitting choice...
When she wasn't draped around the oh-so-hot Burberry model Douglas Booth, we got a chance to admire Emma Roberts' flirty Julien Macdonald dress. Our first thoughts upon seeing the young actress in such a saucy lacy creation was, 'what a treat to see Emma looking so grown-up!' And after presenting Christopher Bailey with his accolade, we have an inkling this girl is set to make a big splash in the fashion scene any. day. now. Wonder which designer will be the first to come a'knocking... Place your bets now, peeps!
Next up, we give you Daphne Guinness swathed in fluid silver. There's only one word of this: FABulous.
Another floor-length black gown glided through the paps on the back of Daisy Lowe. Her form-fitting Elie Saab A/W '10 gown is made of black lace and tulle, and embellished with strips of sequins along the bodice, as well as embroidered flowers at the hem. The cobweb effect is spot on for the goth-glam queen, wouldn't you say?
And finally, all eyes were on Yasmin Le Bon when she stepped through the door. As a longtime pal of Christopher Kane, she turned once again to his S/S '11 wares for this vibrant stunner. We've got a slight niggle with the lack of definition at the waist but on a night that saw a LOT of black-on-black, this was a welcome surprise.
So now it's your turn to step in and cast your verdict. Who should be crowned the BFAs' Best Dressed? The choice is yours...
