Fashion award Winners - Accessory Designer Nicholas Kirkwood

Three cheers for shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood, officially Accessory Designer at the British Fashion Awards! He’s beaten fellow nominees Camilla Skovgaard, and Emma Hill for Mulberry.

Not for nothing do we call Nicholas a Sexy Shoe God, for his footwear is so fancy that no one is surprised to know he learned his trade at fabulous MILLINERS Phillip Treacy rather than taking a conventional all-shoe training path. His theory that there was a gap in the market for shoes as crazy-beautiful as Phillip’s hats turned out to be true and he’s never looked back. His creations take in materials as unconventional as devoré satin, hand-printed suede and leather, laser-cut mirror leather, cobra and rubberised leather. And they are worn by everyone from Sarah Jessica Parker to Cheryl Cole. Yay!

He’s recently been appointed as Creative Director at Italian accessories brand Pollini, and his first task was to immediately collaborate with friends and fellow young London designers Preen, Manish Arora, Meadham Kirchoff, Louise Gray, Michael Van Der Ham on brilliant shoes for their S/S ’11 collections.

Congratulations Nicholas!
