The Royal Wedding: bonkers news update!

29 November 2010

Wondering how we were going to string this thing out until April? Well here’s your answer: it’s an increasingly bonkers succession of wedding related stories!

Number 1. Sir Elton John has hinted that he may well perform at the wedding of Kate and William, telling Steve Wright’s Radio 2 show ‘I probably will’ when asked if he was likely to have a tinkle on the ivories. Elton famously performed ‘Candle in the Wind’ at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, which took place at the same location as the wedding in 1997. This leads Grazia Daily to wonder whether, in fact, Elton’s potential performance is a delightful idea or an ever-so-slightly creepy one. Thoughts?

Number 2. And this, we love. Hot on the heels of Queenie sporting some spectacularly fierce 3D eyewear last week, Perez Hilton (who else?) reports that ‘sources’ are speculating that the BBC, Sky and Virgin might record the royal wedding in 3D to enable us mere mortals to feel as if we are a part of the action. In spite of the fact that precisely three people in the UK currently have 3D television, we are well up for this, not least because we spy a marketing opportunity for some amazing official souvenir 3D glasses.

And finally, from the sublime to the ridiculous...

Number 3. According to TMZ, an anonymous bidder has purchased a star in honour of Kate and William. No! Not a former X-Factor contestant, employed to belt out cover versions on their every whim, but an ACTUAL star!  The International Star Registry (uh-ha) has released a very official looking document, complete with the words ‘Ye’ and ‘doth’ (yup) which states that the star formerly known as ‘Corona Borealis RA 15h 43m 10s D 28’ 31’’ shall now be known as ‘Prince William and Kate Middleton’. Catchy, non?
