We love a good list here at Grazia, especially for the debate and comments they elicit. Just take a look at our very own Woman of The Year and Best Dressed Stars polls and make sure to vote for your favourites or make some, always welcome, new suggestions. Earlier this week, Business of Fashion revealed Industrie magazine’s list of, what they’ve called, The New Creative Establishment for 2010. Billed as ‘the 50 most influential and inspirational creatives working in fashion today’ the list focuses on the new rather than the established or at least, so it claims. Judging from the vigorous discussion it’s sparked on the influential fashion blog, some do not find Ms Prada, Karl Lagerfeld or renowned photographer Steven Meisel, whose iconic work has been shaping fashion photography since the Eighties, particularly new. Top of the list? Photographers Mert & Marcus, seen here with a certain Ms Courtney Love.
According to Industrie’s editors, Jens Grede and Erik Torstensson, ‘those listed were selected not only for their creative faculties/creative contribution to fashion today but also because of the wider impact their work has had on fashion business, the social and other creative industries.’ What do you think? Phoebe Philo has certainly defined the last two seasons with her pared-down aesthetic for Céline, Nicola Formichetti’s stylistic contribution to the blockbuster-production that is Lady Gaga has certainly redefined airport-chic, and New York wunderkind Alexander Wang’s take on American sportswear left a trail of grey marl jersey dresses behind it. As always, let us know what you think and for a closer look, pick up Industrie’s second issue, featuring what is most definitely a new look from Marc Jacobs on the cover!
