CFDA Fashion Fund Awards thrill New York!

17 November 2010

Alexa, Anna and Chanel Iman working the . . .green hedge (?)

Over in America, where they don’t have a Royal Family to keep them entertained, poor loves, fashion fans had to content themselves with the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards instead. This is like the American version of NEWgen, instead they make it into an awards ceremony too! And to prove it, they invited along Blake Lively, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Leighton Meester and err, Kim Kardashian, -who was actually the date of designer Zac Posen. Alexa Chung also put in a appearance and the whole shebang was hosted by Anna Wintour herself.

So, the winners on the night will all take home cash to develop their businesses. Top prize went to Billy Reid, a menswear designer from LA who has started adapting his preppy aesthetic for the female form, resulting in what we could call school uniform chic (no, not in a Britney style of school uniform either). We like. (above)

Prabal Gurung S/S '11

Prabal Gurung was the runner up. Mr Gurung, originally from Nepal is already a recognisable name on the fashion scene with Demi Moore, Leighton Meester, Zoe Saldana, Rachel Weisz and Thandie Newton as fans. Trained at Parsons before interning at Donna Karan, and working for Cynthia Rowley and Bill Blass, he now heads up his own label creating collections of youthful but very desirable sporty pieces.

The other runner up was jeweller Eddie Borgo. He is well known for his statement, rock and roll-y pieces, and he has collaborated with designer Phillip Lim for his catwalk show. He plans to use his $100,000 prize money to hire additional staff and relocate his studio to a larger space.

Congratulations one and all!
