Carey to star in The Great Gatsby!

Cool Film ALERTARAMA!

So, Baz Lurhmann is planning a feature film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s absolute MASTERPIECE The Great Gatsby. So one of our all time favourite books made into a film by the man responsible for Strictly Ballroom, Romeo and Juliet AND Moulin Rouge? We haven’t heard news this good since we got wind of a secret Charlotte Olympia sample sale at knock-down prices!

Gatsby, as a cultural edifice, has inspired many references itself, telling the story of charming but enigmatic Gatsby and their friend’s lifestyle of untold decadence and wealth, all set in the age of prohibition and bootlegging, with every chapter punctuated by a party more lavish than the last. Kate Moss is such a fan of the author that she themed that mad party for her 30th bday was inspired by his other book The Beautiful And The Damned.

The last film of the novella starred Mia Farrow as Daisy, the part that Carey will play, with Robert Redford as Gatsby, who will be played by Leonardo DiCaprio this time. Carey has already been compared to Miss Farrow AND Jean Seberg so surely this role could cement her Hollywood credentials once and for all! While film buffs might concern themselves with Miss Mulligan's place in the movie star hierarchy we're thinking - we CANNOT WAIT for Baz Luhrmann's flapper dance sequences! BE. YOND.
