Erdem S/S '11
After the Royal news broke this morning, the entire office’s thoughts turned, as one, to the extremely vexing question: WHO WILL DESIGN Kate Middleton's DRESS? Each of our fashion experts takes a punt on their guess for the Royal dress...
Junior Fashion News Editor, Hannah Almassi says ‘I’d go with Marchesa. After all, Georgina Chapman is British so it counts!’
Fashion Assistant Lily Russo plumps for a bridal favourite - ‘I don’t see Kate going very far from the traditional. My money is on Jenny Packham’
Senior Editor Hattie Brett told us ‘I'd love to see Kate in a Vivienne Westwood dress - true Sex and the City style. Somehow, with her political connotations I don't think that's going to happen though’.
Angela Buttolph, Web Editor came up with the brainwave ‘Erdem's collection for Spring/Summer 2011 was like a fairy tale for a future bride. His delicate cream lace dresses would be perfect as bridal wear. His designs are always romantic and modest but totally modern. Any dress of his would be an appropriate but high fashion choice for Kate’.
Charlie Miller, our Executive Fashion and Beauty Editor, told us she’d love to see Kate in ‘McQueen, or even Galliano. That would be fabulous!’ but added ‘Are you reading this Kate?’
Fashion Editor at Large, Melanie Rickey thinks ‘Marchesa, definitely’ (above)
Queen of Best Dressed, Jessica Vince says ‘No doubt she'll opt for a British designer but I’d love to see Kate in a dress from Alberta Ferretti’s bridal collection. The designs are so sleek rather than meringue-like, and their ethereal feel and lace panels would be dreamy for a spring wedding.’
Style Director Paula Reed took the opportunity to back a British designer too. ‘Its got to be British, absolutely. There's no way she would go for a someone like Vera Wang, because she's the future Queen of England! I think Amanda Wakeley (below) would do something brilliant for Kate’
Kay Barron Fashion News Editor - 'I'd love it if Kate wore Stella McCartney. Stella is a girl's girl, who knows how to flatter a women's body. Her designs are modern and sensual but not too outlandish that it would raise her majesty's eyebrows.'
Sophie Ferguson Jones, shopping editor says ‘I would like to see Stella, but I think it would be more like Marchesa’
Catherine Nieto Junior Fashion Editor - ‘Alice Temperley does beautiful, vintage inspired dresses that would suit Kate’
