There was only one event which was going to get Grazia Daily to brave the rain yesterday, and that was the small glimmer of hope that we might get us some Burberry, Missoni, Longchamp and more at the Selfridges Really Really Great Garage Sale. The concept was genius- essentially a rake of celebrities auctioning off their designer threads in the car park of Selfridges in aid of Mothers4Children. The reality was even better - although we didn't manage to bag any treasures (we had our heart set on Tamara Mellon’s brand new Jimmy Choo shoulder bag which someone else snapped up for £420). Other lucky ladies and gents managed to get their greedy little hands on Claudia Schiffer’s brand new D&G bag for £200. BARGAIN. Jemima Khan’s Alexander McQueen dress went for £300, Minnie Driver’s Armani floor-length gown for £260, Yasmin Le Bon’s Alaia Dress sold for £350 and Rob Lowe’s Prada suit for £100.
We happily used the opportunity to spot some famous faces while we shopped…Trinny Woodall in a blue silk tee, Louise Redknapp, Yasmin Le Bon, Melanie Blatt, Holly Valance & Kelly Hoppen were all milling around doing their bit. We didn’t even mind that their off-duty ensembles were hidden by the obligatory cream aprons and star headbands. By 4pm it was all wrapped up and we once again descended into the grim Sunday deluge with goody bag in hand. Amazing day, amazing bargains, amazing cause. Selfridges can you make this an annual event please?!
