Fanfare, please: the contest continues!
You may have noticed that during this series of The X Factor, Grazia Daily has been somewhat underwhelmed by Cheryl Cole’s style offerings, so what a treat it was to see her emerging through the smoke on Saturday night in a shimmering flourish of glamourousness. ‘At last!’ we cried. Her column gown is a Roberto Cavalli concoction, crammed with the designer’s signature lavishness - from gold, glittery bling to an ample bosom-flash. So while critics were cringing at that rather snug bustier and those ginormous di Grisogono earrings, we were delighted to see her in something other than a thigh-grazing LBD. And considering Cavalli designed Chezza’s wedding dress all those years ago, it’s no wonder she turned to her old pal for a flash-tastic showstopper. After all, lest we forget this is the man who once said “anyone is capable of doing minimalism. I won't, because it's horrible." Indeed.
And Dannii? It’s no secret she’s brought oodles of chic each and every week, and Saturday’s display was no different. She embodied graceful sophistication thanks to a breathtaking white frock of Grecian credentials. The toga-esque design, created by asymmetrical draping, comes courtesy of fellow Australian designer Carla Zampatti, and those super-flattering nude heels are from Sergio Rossi. All that’s needed is a turquoise colour pop via a pair of Annoushka earrings plus a matching Stephen Webster ring. It’s a winning formula. Oh yes, the spring was well and truly back in Grazia Daily’s fashion step…
Until Sunday night, that is. We know we’re not alone when we say WHAT. THE. HECK. was that? Of course, we’re referring to the chignon-tastic-ness a-top Cheryl's head. Er ladies, when, last week, we beseeched you to think of your public and up your game with some uber-exaggerated hair, we did not mean this (yes, OK, we should be careful what we wish for…). Oh Chezzle, although we love you, sprouting ears like Minnie Mouse crossed with Princess Leia, served with a dollop of Gaga, makes it impossible to take you seriously. Quite frankly, that cherry-red hue was enough to swallow. And all this distracted us from your Georges Chakra gown, which is actually pretty darn hot; see:
Meanwhile, Ms Minogue was hitting another blinder out of the ballpark. Basically, we're suckers for animal print so her pale blue number was just the ticket to make us gawp. And although there's a Dolce & Gabbana vibe to this one, it's actually by Emilia Wickstead, a New Zealander who counts Samantha Cameron as a fan. As she strutted onto the stage, Dannii looked confident and comfortable, showing off that womanly silhouette with pride and class. You see, what's so admirable about Kylie's little sis is her outfits are less contrived but forever unpredictable, and that quiff is 'statement hair' without entering ludicrous territory. And that, children, is how style icons are made.
But who do YOU think had the fashion X Factor this week? The box below awaits your verdict...
