We've already mentioned Industrie, the magazine which covers the fashion business from the inside out, featuring fashion industry people rather than traditional celebs. Well now the mag has launched its second issue, with an intriguing-looking cover star - claiming to be uh, "Mrs Jacobs". Of course, it's Marc Jacobs in fancy dress/drag. The shot, by photographer Patrick Demarchelier and styled by friend and collaborator, Katie Grand is not the first time OR the second, that Mr Jacobs has taken on a female alter ego for the camera.
We think it's EVER SO tastefully done, don't you? It swiftly brought to mind this wicky wacky shoot he did for Interview only last year
and THEN we recalled that he was shot dressed as a ballerina with Naomi Campbell back in 2007 for Harper’s and The Observer Magazine. AHA! Although both Tom Ford and Jeremy Scott seemed likely candidates for a spot of designer draggery neither of them have taken the opportunity.
It makes promotional sense, doesn't it? You can generate muchos press at the one time AND get the clothes seen, albeit in a slightly skewiff context.
OF COURSE there’s this super famous portrait of the late Alexander McQueen with Isabella Blow, shot by David LaChappelle, and this slightly less well known one of John Galliano half in and half out of a ballgown of monstrous proportions in this magical, magical editorial shot by Annie Leibowitz from last year.
Meanwhile, fact fans, Lady Gaga appeared on Japanese Vogue Homme as a boy (shot by Nick Knight) and Belgian wunderkind and head of Theory, Olivier Theyskens has told many people of his yearnings to be a girl, and voila! here is! plus Candy is an entire fash magazine devoted to the subject. Ahhh.
