Oh the perks of being pals with Gucci. Yesterday, the uber-glamourous fashion house flew Grazia Daily to Madrid for a tantalising fragrance workshop (more details to come tomorrow, beauty buffs) before handing us a ticket to The MTV EMAs. OH.EM.GEE!
Oh, and did we mention a VIP afterparty bracelet too, that co-ordinated perfectly with Grazia Daily's red lacy Topshop frock? How clever you are, Gucciettas.
So you must excuse our gloating - and our bleary-eyed-ness (we know it's 5 o'clock but we flew back to British soil at 7AM this morning: GULP) - but we couldn't possibly keep all the behind-the-scenes action to ourselves. And despite the early start today, goodness gracious, was it worth it? Hell YES! So in case you missed our live updates on Twitter from the event, here's what went down...Olé!
So let's rewind to 8pm last night when we jumped on a shuttle bus from our *ahem 5 star hotel to La Caja Mágica, aka: 'The Magic Box' (very fitting for the occassion, dontcha think?). There, Grazia Daily was greeted by laser beams like search lights scaling the Madrid skyline. There's nothing that says Glitzy Awards Show quite like laser beams...
Once inside, we got into the party spirit thanks to an endless supply of champagne (yum) while securing a vantage point above the chaos for some serious celeb stalking watching.
Hang on, is that the red carpet we spy? Quiiiick!
Ok so it's actually a purple carpet, but just as FABulous as you'd expect, especially when Rihanna arrived. We were impressed to see her staying true to her more feminine, less fierce style - doesn't she look wonderous in that frothy champagne number by Marchesa? We say a resounding yes. Ke$ha looked pretty impressed too, doing a double take as the stunning floor-sweeper wafted past. Now, now Ri-Ri, there's no need to finger-gun the poor girl - we doubt it's Ke$ha's cuppa tea so think you're safe.
Next up was the newly-wedded couple known as Rusty. Russell Brand and Katy Perry made their first public outing as husband and wife after their recent nupitals, with K.Pez playing up to her trademark kookiness in a sequinned number from Jeremy Scott's S/S '11 collection. Brill!
The non-celebs had also put in an impressive effort. These two lovely ladies were dressed as, well, we're not quite sure, actually... Answers on a postcard please.
No, it's not Spain's answer to The Saturdays. We were bowled over by this bunch of stunners and their sparkling glad rags, so awarded them with Grazia Daily's Best-Dressed-for-a-non-celeb award (it's a working title).
Time to take our seats! Can you tell we're a little excited?! We're crossing our toes that we're sitting near the Kings of Leon. Or at least Jon Bon Jovi. That man has such lovely hair...
'Want you to make me feel like I'm the only girl in the world!' First up, we do a little singing 'n' shimmying as Rihanna hits the stage. She's gone all out on the old florals, hasn't she?, arriving through a cascade of red and yellow petals and working a glorious skirt blooming with flowers. We want (to be her).
A special hats-off goes to Eva Longoria who did a marvellous job at presenting the whole shabang, occasionally speaking to the crowd in sing-song Spanish (who cares we had no idea what she's saying), then tottering around the set to take her place in a variety of positions and looking wonderful in a parade of dresses. The Spanish ham was our personal favourite, obvs.
It'll come as no surprise that we had high hopes Lady Gaga would be gracing us with her presence. But as she was announced as the winner of the Best Pop Act award and we held our breath for a glimpse of some wacktacular outfit emerging from the crowd, the big screen showed a yellow-haired Gaga interrupting her Budapest concert to accept the accolade via satellite >hmph<
Despite the lack of Gaganess, we were cheered by the oh-so-hot Kings of Leon who, incidentally, were staying in our hotel room...
During the ad breaks, we watched as Eva had a little boogie with Katy Perry but she saved those a-may-zing rapping talents for our very own Dizzy Rascal. Could this be a new career move for the teeny actress, we wonder?
And then it was party time! We squeezed our way into the VIP area where we schmoozed with the music world's movers and shakers. And, er, Kelly Brook.
Wow. We want these girls' lashes. How do you say 'fabulous' in Spanish?
Speaking of fabulous, the revellers had gone all-out on their party outfits. Just check out this trio, who take fashion inspiration from Gaga (who else?).
Screechy entertainment came courtesy of the ever-racoon-eyed Taylor Momsen and her rock'n'roll band, The Pretty Reckless who performed their song 'Zombie' to an excited crowd screaming 'We love you, Little J!' Bless. Check out the bra-and-bum flashing performance below...
As Grazia Daily sipped on fruity cocktails, we filled our bellies by nibbling on healthy veg pots. No drunkenness for us on a Sunday night, oh no! (ok, maybe just a little...)
We noticed a reoccuring trend for men in Madonna-esque drag avec bushy moustaches. This Spanish lot are craaay-zee! We suddenly feel terribly under-dressed...
See what we mean? Um, Wagner aren't you supposed to be on ITV right now?
Then, before we knew it, it was hometime >boo!< So as the lights came on at 3am (yes, that is TWO hours before our wake-up call), we hopped back on the shuttle bus for bedtime. But not before we'd snuck a sneaky bottle of champers in our clutch bag. Shhhh, let's keep it as our little secret, yeah?
