Amidst stories of escaped tigers, fortune-telling parrots and assaulted photographers, Katy Perry and Russell Brand were married on Saturday in a decadent ceremony in Ranthambhore National Park in Rajasthan, India. A statement released by the couple just after the main event said “Russell Brand and Katy Perry are overjoyed to confirm that they were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. Brand on October 23”. Bless! "The very private and spiritual ceremony, attended by the couples' closest family and friends was performed by a Christian minister and longtime friend of the Hudson Family. The backdrop was the inspirational and majestic countryside of Northern India." What the rep did NOT go on to mention was that the former Miss Katy Perry now has the same name as a certain British comedian. Eep.
Despite the Vegas-tastic hen party that she organised for Katy, Rihanna was a no show at the wedding (boo) despite having been mooted as being Mrs Brand’s maid of honour and KP booking a special room for her juuuust in case she was able to attend. But RiRi was stuck in the studio working instead. However, amongst the 85 guests who were able to come and play at the seven day extravaganza were Jonathan Ross and his wife Jane Goldman, and P Diddy who was expected to attend from Sunday after hosting an event in Vegas on Saturday night.
Though no official pics of the ceremony have been released yet, Russell was spotted on Friday with intricate henna tattoos on his hands (a tradition normally reserved for the bride, pulled off with metrosexual panache by Mr. Brand, naturellement) whilst Katy was snapped arriving in India wearing what looked like a nath, an Indian bridal nose ring which is traditionally removed by the groom on the evening of the wedding, but turned out to just be erm, nath-style sunglasses.
So – to the money. The dress. Or dresses. Katy is reported to have begun the day in a blue sari before changing into what is belieeeeeved to be an Elie Saab couture dress which Us magazine reports as being ‘dove grey with lace sleeves’. The Grazia Daily newshounds have snuffled out some pics of Elie Saab’s bridal dress from his AW ’10 couture collection, which we strongly suspect could be The One worn by Katy to become Mrs Brand.
So, as Grazia Daily asks ourselves if this means we should stop perving on Russell Brand (?) we leave you with the big man’s own ponderings from a recent New York Times event. “Really, love between two people is the most spectacular and ordinary thing in the world… I want to make our wedding just about me and her loving each other and we're getting married in front of our friends and family and keeping it normal." As long as normal involves a fortune telling parrot, obvs. Congratulations guys!
