Glee contoversy over underwear shoot!

25 October 2010

MAJOR Hoo-ha alert! ! ! Those sweet wholesome lovely HIGH SCHOOL kids from Glee have been corrupted by the lollipop-handing Pied Piper of the fashion world – yep, naughty TERRY RICHARDSON.

Basically the shoot, (which we have thoughtfully reproduced for you here) is controversial, even though such magazines routinely feature ladies in pants and vests for two reasons:

Glee is set in a High School (and although the actors themselves are all adults) the Glee fan base includes a very young demographic, who critics feel are being encouraged to buy/look at magazines such as GQ, which doesn’t necessarily justify the "soft porn" tag but isn't exactly family-friendly.

The girls, Dianna Agron and Lea Michele, have little more than pulled-up socks and a thick layer of make-up to keep them warm, while their male co-star, Cory Monteith, is fully clothed – in some shots, he is fully layered up in shirt AND jumper. Whaaa? That's not right!

So yep. That was the original situation, but it seems to have snowballed with blogs, newpapers and critics and leaping to add their condemnation to the shoot, culminating in an very heated debate on US show The View (a bit like Loose Women but more credible), on which Whoopie Goldberg mediates between a furious Barbara Walters and Sherri Shepherd .

Tell us what you think of this? Do you agree that the shots are inappropriate or are you bewildered as to what all the fuss is about?
