Damien Hirst with Maia Norman, Josephine de la Baume, Allison Mosshart and Valentine Fillol-Cordier
According to The September Issue, ‘September is the January of fashion’, and judging by the number of fashion parties that take place on Thursday nights, it must be the Friday of fashion. Anyway, it was with that thought in mind and a spring in our step that we set off for the launch of the S/S ’11 collection for Maia Norman’s label, Mother of Pearl.
The gorgeous, quite minimal collection was embellished with super bold prints created by artist Jim Lambie, who was also in attendance. Maia told us – ‘I love Jim’s work. So much so that I was cautious approaching him, thinking he would be very sceptical.’ Talking about how practical and wearable the pieces from the collection are (like the simple silk t-shirts and the soft leather parker) she admitted the sporty streak comes from her. ‘I’m a surfer, and I also ride motorcross bikes. Part of the joy of motorcross is definitely the gear! Those leather pants and jackets are just beautifully made and I wanted to include that feel in the collection’. The results are cool and clever.

Next it was on to the opening of Vanessa Bruno’s new store, where we inspected the premises, champagne in hand, before catching up with supermodel and friend of Grazia, Poppy Delevigne.

‘I’m off to a friend’s wedding tomorrow, but I’m not buying anything new, I’m just going to go through my cupboard. The only problem is my sisters borrow from me, so half my stuff is at their houses. They’re a real nuisance, actually!’ Well, Poppy, if our sister was a Chanel ambassador and friend of Karl’s, we’re sure we’d take full advantage of her wardrobe too!
