Madonna’s hilarious ‘I hate actresses’ letter from 1991!

15 October 2010

Ooh, now this IS cool. As you know, Grazia Daily’s powers are very strong. So strong, in fact that we have just today succeeded in going BACK IN TIME to 1991 when Madonna, bored on the set of ‘In a League of their Own’, decided to write a letter to her friend and collaborator, the very influential photographer, Steven Meisel (a year before they made the SEX book together). Or, ok, maybe we found it on the internet.  Anyway...

In the letter she moans about the arduous task of shooting the film; ‘I cannot suffer any more than I have in the past month learning how to play baseball with a bunch of girls (yuk).’ Ouch.

The tiresomeness of the location; ‘when God decided where the beautiful men were going to live in the world, he did not choose Chicago.’

And, most of all, her despair at her co-stars; ‘I have made a few friends but they are athletes, not actresses. I hate actresses, they have nothing on the house of extravaganza.’ [One of those amazing gangs of dancing drag Queens as seen in Paris is Burning – AND where the original dance - Vogueing - originated from].

Hilariously bitchy, fag haggish and feeling out of place in small town America? How could anyone think THIS letter (signed ‘Love Dita') could have been written by her Madgesty? And yet, it was. What will Rosie O'Donnell say?

Ho ho ho
