Delve into designers' sketchbooks!

Call us nosy if you like, but we love to have a snoop around behind closed doors. We judge people by the books on their shelves and the art on their walls. So imagine our delight at the thought of getting the insider track on fashion designer’s sketchbooks. Thanks to author Hywel Davies, and his new book, Fashion Designers’ Sketchbooks (well, what else would it be called!), we are privy to the sketches, toiles and inspiration of Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, Richard Nicoll, Dries van Noten, John Galliano, Matthew Williamson and loads more, who were all interviewed by Hywel for the book. We can’t deny that we have judged the designers by who can draw better than others, but we were instantly sucked into the mood boards and gorgeous images of exotic fabrics and sepia photos.

To mark the launch of the book, Hywel Davies has teamed up with Sketchbook Magazine and The Inside Out Festival at Urban Outfitters on High Street Kensington, where he will be interviewing a series of designers, including Fred Butler, Bora Asku,  Carolyn Massey and other special guests, throughout the week of the 25-29th of October. Additionally, the editorial team of Sketchbook Magazine will be in residence throughout the week in a pop-up editorial office and will curate and art direct live activities including live blogging, live tweeting, live illustrations and interviews. But book your tickets as soon as possible as these talks are guaranteed to sell out.
