Louis Vuitton's PAINTED lady

07 October 2010

Look at the final look from the Louis Vuitton S/S collection by Marc Jacobs. It’s grey tressed ubermodel Kristen McMenamy in a pair of silk trousers and a zebra print top, right? Look again. It actually appears to be the lovely Kirsten in the trousers and some carefully applied body paint! Ooh err.

A number of things sprung to our mind when we identified the painted effect.

1 – Some jokes about how WE were going to paint OUR top on today but then, on thinking; it looks like rain - we had a change of heart.

2 – That’s not really that good is it? Grazia’s office is situated very close to the area of London known as Covent Garden, which is densely populated with street performers, therefore, body paint doesn’t have a very glamorous appeal in our eyes.

3 – Ms McMenamy must be known by casting directors as having absolutely no fear. There she was in that incredible multilayered  outfit on Viktor and Rolf’s catwalk last season, here she is striding around in futuristic trousers, changing into four of herself and back again in Gareth Pugh’s incredible kaleidoscopic collection video and now drumming up headlines for Mr Jacobs.

Will this catch on? We are going to file it in the same box as the Chanel furry suits of last season, in that we’re yet to see one out and about.
