Designers often throw themselves into the competition of "who can put on the most talked about show?". Giles Deacon, who creates cool enough clothes to sit back without worrying about who is in the front row seemed to fall into that category this Fashion Week. As you know, the choice of Abbey Clancy and Kelly Brook on the catwalk and the much-maligned-but now madeover Kerry Katona on the front row, provoked quite a bit of chattering and more than one manoeuvred eyebrow amongst the very discerning fash pack.
Now Katie Grand, Giles’s stylist, collaborator and former girlfriend, has spoken out on why she persuaded him to included the girls, who are not usually placed very high up on the fashion food chain - to take part in the show:
"Sometimes I think it's good to not be as highbrow," she says. "Often fashion is quite lofty. It's good to use different people."
It seems that the girls themselves enjoyed the high-fash treatment too. . . Said Abbey Clancy "People always had me pigeon-holed and then Katie styled me in a way no one had seen before,"
Pretention-free Grand added added 'Just because they haven't had the typical "cool model" career path it doesn't mean they're any less valid than someone like Agyness [Deyn].'
And who could possibly disagree with that?
