Grazia Daily is very sad to report that fashion designer Catherine Walker has passed away, at the age of 65, after a battle with breast cancer.

Walker was born in France but made her name on the British fashion scene. Her elegant couture designs found the perfect muse in Princess Diana, who Walker began working with straight after her marriage to Prince Charles in 1981.

Then a global style icon, Diana showcased the designer's glamourous suits and sophisticated eveningwear to a worldwide audience. Following her death, the princess was laid to rest in a black dress by Walker.

Walker won Designer of the Year for Couture at the British Fashion Awards in 1990, and Designer of the Year for Glamour in 1991.

Her family said of the designer in a statement; 'She built one of the most successful British couture brands and at the same time raised a loving family. Catherine Walker has dressed many of the world's most beautiful women.'

Walker will be much missed by those who frequented her well-known Fulham Road boutique, and those who loved her elegant designs including Joely Richardson, Olivia Williams, Emilia Fox and Lucy Liu.
