London Fashion Week: First look

17 September 2010

London Fashion Week has fully started. And it's sunny! The fashionistas are out in force and, for once, the obligatory sunglasses are ACTUALLY necessary. Most of the fashionable and the good were expecting disastrous weather conditions, so there were quite a few sweaty brows on the faces of the parka-coated, who had hobbled across the cobbled courtyard of Somerset House in ginormous shoes. >clomp<

Now, though we were hoping to use the limited edition Barclays Cycle Hire bikes designed by Jean-Pierre Braganza, we couldn't find ANY. (In fact, if you're a Grazia Daily reader in the London area and you happen to see one, please tweet us a pic to @Grazia_Live.) Thus, we were FORCED to use the super swanky Grazia Land Rover that is ours for the duration of LFW. Poor us, non?

At the tents this season, BFC NEWGEN by Topshop has decamped to a series of uber-cool sheds on a balcony overlooking the Thames, where each designer has their own teeeeny tiiiny mini-shed showcasing their collections. Personal favourites from this year's batch of NEWGEN recipients were Yang Du who has these bonkers sad lion and tiger hats and Christopher Raeburn who had a seamstress sewing together leather bunnies in his shack.

We are also loving this year's press area which is adorned with awesome pics from the new book by Iain R. Webb, including a fabulous one of young Stella! Bless.

We'll have more show reports and gossip later, along with behind-the-scenes info from Hannah Marshall's show, so check back with us later this afternoon when we will have even more news from the first day of shows.
