Kate Moss Models On Bryan Ferry's Album Cover!

09 September 2010

There's no denying that Bryan Ferry knows about glamour. And Roxy Music's never-endingly sexy frontman, former glam rock pin-up (and the Godfather of experimental pop), has no doubt about the iconic status of another style goddess - Miss Kate Moss. Ferry has cast the supermodel as the face of his new album, Olympia.

The singer said Moss was the ‘obvious choice’ to convey the ‘glamorous notoriety’ of the original "Olympia nude" - a portrait by impressionist painter Edouard Manet.

‘Kate has long been the ‘‘femme fatale’’ of our age, as controversial as she is beautiful and the most glamorous female icon since Marilyn Monroe' says Bryan 'Olympia was a kind of early pin-up picture and in a sense a forerunner of some 20th century pop art, which I feel strongly connected to.’

Bryan Ferry is an anomaly – a rock star who only seems to get cooler and cooler as he ages. Not for him the facelifts and out-of-touch public statements of other stars your Dad may like. His work in Roxy Music has inspired generations of extremely cool pop musicians and although he can be quite enigmatic in interviews, Ferry, a former fine art student, has always made very clear how important the visual side of his work is. The Roxy album covers are among the most iconic in history, as he always used an incredibly hot supermodel, including Amanda Lear and Jerry Hall, often naked and usually provocative but always unattainably beautiful.

The Greek goddess Olympia has a rich heritage in fine art, including paintings by Manet, Titian and Fransisco de Goya, fact fans, and Ferry says the latest interpretation of the reclining nude is said to have been produced with no expense spared; ‘shoes and dresses were flown in from Paris, jewellery escorted by security guards, flowers were everywhere and we had a supporting cast of thousands.’ Ensuring Kate was draped in finery to recreate the classic image.

Olympia is Bryan's latest solo project and will be out on October 25th.
