Grazia Daily popped over to Venice for the film festival this week, to talk style with some of the most stylish women on the planet. There were lots of incredible A-list stars there, but perched at the very top of our wishlist was a director - Sofia Coppola; who was in town promoting her new film Somewhere, wearing an array of restrained (and therefore ridiculously cool and contemporary) outfits.
The film stars Stephen Dorff (remember him?) as an out-of-control actor who receives an unexpected visit from his young daughter - played by Elle Fanning, the 12-year-old little sister of Dakota 'Twilight' Fanning.
Clearly, there was a bit of a generation gap between the director and her actress. But Coppola, (a sometime Marc Jacobs muse/model, and now a bag designer for Louis Vuitton), tells us that the pair managed to bond over a mutual love of fashion; 'we would get together and talk about clothes.' But in case you think the chat was all about the latest in luxury labels, Sofia continues 'I would show her some of my vintage outfits collections! Vintage is totally where it's at.'
Vintage fashion obviously played a part in the director's last film project; 'I suppose you could call Marie Antoinette vintage in extreme, and I loved working on the clothes, but having said that there were so many extras to style and dress, I was going crazy by the end of it. I just wanted to go back to contemporary life and fashion in "Somewhere,"' she says of her new movie, which is set in LA.
For her Venice red carpet moment, Coppola loyally chose Louis Vuitton Resort 2011; not a full-on glamour gown, but a demure to-the-knee LBD; 'I like understated and clean lines'.
So we are now hideously jealous of Elle Fanning, getting to hang out with our ultimate style icon. The pre-teen actress tells Grazia Daily that Coppola is 'the most stylish, coolest person ever. Me and my friends just want to be her.'
Us too, missy. Us too..
