Daisy Lowe Earns Her Fashion Stripes in Gareth Pugh!

08 September 2010

If there's one girl who can defy a fashion dictat, it's Daisy Lowe. Take her latest red carpet turn as proof. The model poured her voluptuousness into a Gareth Pugh tube gown for last night's GQ Awards and well, WOWZER! See ladies, whoever said horizontal stripes have to be scary? Ok ok, we admit having a fine figure like Daisy's certainly helps but it’s the way she’s pulled it off that has Grazia Daily so beguiled.

For starters, La Lowe's never been one to shy away from flaunting her God-given assets (remember THIS, par exemple?), but what we’re really loving about yesterday's choice is that it makes the most of her killer curves while maintaining an air of sophistication. Thanks to minimal accessorising and an understated beauty look, Daisy doesn't detract from the main event and as such, keeps things classy. Bravo! Plus, when you compare Daisy’s approach to the very similar, yet saucier, vibe Rihanna worked on Pugh’s FROW last year (below), her take on the trend is made all the more elegant, don’t you think?

And it’s really no surprise considering D.Lo’s had ample time to polish the look. It was back in MARCH that she tweeted a pic of the frock, along with an excited squeal of ‘I neeeed this gareth pugh dress! Arghhh its so good I'm gona vomit’. Of course, what Daisy wants, Daisy gets. And understandably, she needed those six months to ease the nausea...

Besides, Grazia Daily totally gets her hysteria - an evening dress that is slinky, comfy AND by Gareth 'goth god' Pugh? Oh, and Dr Who looks pretty smitten, too. We’re sold!

But the extraordinary outfit has garnered some not-so-flattering reviews, too. One (very inventive) critic grumbled this morning that she looks like 'a grey humbug in a Morticia Addams cast-off.' Eek! So naturallement we're calling on YOU fashion savvy lot to take the matter in hand. Is Daisy's look a lesson in how to wear stripes? Or does it land on the horror side of gothic? You decide!
