The latest trend for models? Must have ‘a personality’

Plus size models with curves and cleavage? Old news. The latest demands New York casting agents have encountered from designers like Proenza Schouler boys Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez are to come up with girls who have..wait for it... a personality. It's thought to be a reaction against the blank-faced cloney mannequins that have populated the catwalks of the last few years.

Apparently the designer duo told model bookers Ms. Brokaw and Ms. Gregori-Boina that they are now looking for girls with ‘life experience; maybe they’ve had a boyfriend or travelled a bit’, and that in general the trend was that 'things are steering away from the army casting we’ve seen in recent years.'

Do you see this as a positive new development? Or does it all sound a bit Miss World? Is it creepy that designers care whether or not models have already had a boyfriend? And can travel really affect the way a model looks? We'd love to know your opinions...
