British Fashion Awards Nominations out!

Nominations are out for what turned out to be Grazia Daily’s absolutely FAVOURITE night out last year – The British Fashion Awards. This year we are thrilled that some very deserving designers are up for gongs - including Erdem and Christopher Kane who are up for Designer of the Year along with creative director of CelinePheobe Philo

Miss Philo has already had several stages of her fashion career, and all of them successful. Once Stella McCartney’s right hand woman, then boss at Chloe, followed by a career break to look after her tiny children before a much-trumpeted return to the international fashion scene, at a re-vamped Celine, a move that managed to live up to the hype and more, as her pared-down camel, beige and navy separates became THE shapes of the season for 2010.

Up-and-comers are celebrated in two awards. The Emerging Talent for Accessories; which this year will be battled over by girlie platform shoe queen, Charlotte Olympia and two jewellers - Husam El Odeh and Jessica McCormack. In the Emerging Talent ready-to-wear category are Mary Katrantzou, Meadham Kirchhoff and Michael van der Ham. Good luck one and all!

Another interesting category every year is the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator, which could be given to any ‘British stylist, make-up artist, photographer, art director or producer whose creativity has been a major inspiration and influence in the past year’ This year, photographers Nick Knight and Rankin are both up for the award, and have both had huge years in terms of projects – Nick was even apprehended by the police for harbouring an illegal (stuffed) tiger at his grand SHOWstudio shop (!) while uberstylist Nicola Formichetti is also nominated, thanks to his services to British fashion designers for his many commissions for their work on behalf of Lady Gaga, surely the most demanding celebrity client!

That leaves us with only one more category to hype before we go off and fret about what on earth we could wear to such an event, and that is the Designer Brand of the year. Understandably, Pringle of Scotland, Burberry and Mulberry are all up there, for the impact they have made on the international fashion scene of late. Also jockeying for position with them is Victoria Beckham’s label. We’re adding our congratulations to those of Zigazig-ah – the #1 site about the Spice Girls and David Beckham on the internet. Whoo hoo and Girl Power indeed!
