DRESS PREDICTIONS: Our Emmy Awards wish list!

27 August 2010

Yes ladies, we appreciate it must be terribly exciting to be nominated for an Emmy award - to have your astounding talents recognised by the powers of Telly land, as well as your fellow peers, bla bla. But when it comes down to the nitty gritty, it’s all about The Dress, non? So we hope your seamstress is at the ready and your stylist is set for this Sunday when the Emmy Awards kick off because, boy, will Grazia Daily be frock-watching. In fact, we’ve already started making bets on which gown you'll choose. We recommend you take note of our suggestions so you don’t let us down on the night. Thanks in advance.

We begin with Lea Michele who’s been making quite the impact on the red carpet of late - from going all ‘Legs McGee’ in a variety of thigh-skimmers to pulling out super-bright tones that set off her glossy dark locks. So when she arrives at this weekend’s ceremony, you can bet all eyes will be on the young Gleek, desperate to see whether her fashion mojo is still in tact. Especially as she’s been nominated for the ‘lead actress in a comedy series’ award thanks to her role as goody-two-shoes Rachel Berry...

So we reckon we’ve got this one sussed because Lea has already been around town harping on about her frock choice (most helpful). “I picked out my dress and it’s super comfortable,” Lea said at the BlackBerry Torch party. Plus, as chance would have it, the Emmys take place on the starlet’s birthday, so of course, it’s “a perfect party dress.” And Lea let slip another clue: she’s a big fan of Zac Posen. So armed with a stash of clues, we’re putting our money on this flirty frock in vibrant pink from the designer’s A/W ‘10 collection. Not only would it be the perfect showcase for those mile-long pins, but we reckon Lea’s got what it takes to pull of something a little fun and funkier than the standard fare. And, hey, this girl ain’t no wallflower.

But before you go thinking Grazia Daily has gone completely doolally - ‘surely little-miss-diva wouldn’t ditch full-blown glamour for comfort?!’ - we have a Plan B. You see, the starlet is keeping us on our toes with some crafty double-bluffing, and admittedly she must have oodles of choice, but we are not ones to be fooled. So when Lea confessed that “I love Oscar de la Renta...he’s my black tie guy” - a point that she perfectly proved with the designer’s gloriously frothy gown at the Golden Globes – we took action. Step forward this gwageous tiered gown from Oscar’s Resort 2011 collection. And as Hollywood stylist Lindsay Albanese says, we can expect to see “a ton of pastels and cream” come Sunday night. So if Lea is after a floor-sweeper, we reckon this one fits the bill, don't you?

We move onto January Jones who, as Betty Draper in ‘Mad Men’, has sent Team Grazia into quite the tiz woz. So we're gagging to see what the ‘lead actress in a drama series’ nominee will pull out of the bag when she steps before the flashbulbs. For starters, we know the lucky lady has bagged herself a dress she’s long been lusting after. “I saw the dress a few months ago when a designer put it out there, and I saw it in a couple magazines and I just fell in love with it,” January gushed. “I had a fitting a couple weeks ago and it looks cool.” Oh, we’re sure it’ll be more than “cool”, dear. Just look at her show-stopping turn at last year’s ceremony when she went futuristic-meets-glam in a stunning Atelier Versace gown, or how about the frilly Dolce & Gabbana number she wore in ‘08?

“Comfort in these dresses is not an option. As long as it looks good, I’ll suck it up,” January has said. So seeing as tight corseting ain’t going to stop her, how about she goes the whole hog with this stunner from Versace’s A/W ‘10 line? Wacky and wonderful, you might think, but as Jones’ super-hero-esque outfit for the Met Ball proved, she’s quite the stylestunt woman. And wouldn’t it be ace to see her breaking with tradition and working a vibrant hue? No more dress deja vu for you, Ms Jones. What’s more, the actress has admitted that she likes “to shock” (hurrah!) so will she surprise us with a OTT jaw-dropper, like this organza beauty we fell in love with on Dior’s Resort 2011 catwalk? Or perhaps she’ll just go all out Gaga-at-the-Grammys on us? Oh, please make it happen Janners!

Our final musings lie with Claire Danes. Always a winner in the style stakes, she’s a force to be reckoned with when it comes to topping our Best Dressed list. Claire’s been nominated in the ‘lead actress in a movie’ category for her star turn in ‘Temple Grandin’ so naturally, she gave her trusty designer pal a call to secure that winning look. Yep, Zac Posen is clearly a popular boy because he’s making the Danes’ dress, and our sources reveal that the dream team have been working on it together (sweet!). “The actual shape is determined but the actual colour I don’t know,” the actress revealed, “I think certain colours work better on me than others.”

So although we reckon she’d rock pretty much any colour, judging from past outings, Claire is quite the girlie girl, often reverting to pale pinks, softs nudes or shimmering silvers for her glad rags. The same goes for the previous Posen creations we’ve seen Claire sporting - a lot of feminine purples and striking prints are on display to play up to that girl-next-door vibe. And you know what they say - if it ain’t broke...

So we’ve come across the very thing to get Zac and Claire inspired, direct from the designer’s recent Resort collection. It’s floaty, it’s feminine, it’s a beautiful shade of lavender. We couldn’t imagine a more fitting choice. See peeps? It’s easy peasy! The question is - will our prayers be answered come Sunday night? Only time will tell so get crossing those fingers! And remember to check back here on Tuesday morning for the full frock-a-thon. WE. CAN’T. WAIT.
