We’re renaming this week’s ‘In The Style Of’ story to ‘What Would Drew Do?’. Because whether it’s a trip to V Festival, sitting on Letterman’s couch or nipping to the pet store, Drew Barrymore always has a different and inspiring outfit answer in comparison to the trillions of other clone-starlets out there. She seems genuine and genuinely kooky, but totally gorgeous too and for that we adore her. Want to be her, TBH. Even her two tone hair has us reaching for a home dying kit. So let’s analyse just how Drew makes her look work and take some inspiration for this long and what should now be a very fashionable weekend…
It’s time to go on Late Night with David Letterman but you also need to pop to the pet store après-interview. What would Drew do?
Chic trousers (Camilla and Marc) and a head turning top (Richard Chai) just about work for both (maybe a bit dressed up for dog food, but whatevs, it’s just how Drew rolls). And those YSL Trib Twos must be damn comfy to go from one task to another.
It’s your Daily Show appearance; you need to look, well, day-time friendly but still super chic. What would Drew do?
Jeans + army surplus-style jacket + trusty Trib Twos. Half way through she has a change (of heart?) and switches to a purple leather mini skirt – this we are not so keen on.
It’s the L.A. premiere of your latest flick, looking ultra-groomed is a must. What would Drew do?
Outshine everyone. Blind the camera crews and blind us with her sparkly brilliance. The gorgeous gold strapless, thigh split dress is from Catherine Malandrino and we rather like that chunky metal belt she’s styled up such a feminine dress with. She is actually glowing – in a good way.
You’re going to V Festival in Essex, everyone else is likely to be dressed in hotpants and crop tops. What would Drew do?
Well, she’d take the complete opposite route, go for full on festival-wear, throw on a Navajo beaded suede top, riding boots, an Indiana Jones-style hat and be comfortable, have fun and most probably focus on the music.
You’re hailing a cab in Manhattan, what would Drew do?
Trying to catch the attention of a cabby isn’t easy. Step up this Aztec cape (this kind of tribal print features heavily in a lot of outerwear for Autumn/Winter '10 – Drew’s getting in the on the act pretty early) to catch the eye of any potential taxis - or paparazzi for that matter.
You’re in London for the ‘Going The Distance’ film premiere, the weather sucks, what would Drew do?
Wear a legendary Brit designer, that’s what. Screw the weather, this leg baring number from Alexander McQueen is sassy and short but the sombre colour keeps it in cool territory. That gold metal detail belt really does work with EVERYTHING.
It’s Nylon magazine’s super-cool party, you’re invited. What would Drew do?
Mix it up in vintage, natch. Then there’s no chance of a same-out faux pas.
