It's not so unusual to see Angelina Jolie looking sophisticated and beautiful on the red carpet. So last night, when she appeared (right here in London!) for the premiere of her new film, Salt, it was no surprise to see that, once again, she hadn't let us down in the style stakes.
But the dress she wore for last night's British premiere was even more special than usual. Of course, we're used to seeing La Jolie rocking gowns from the biggest luxury fashion houses (Giorgio Armani is usually her go-to couturier), but last night, she chose to wear a dress by London designer Amanda Wakeley.
So this morning, we caught up with the designer, who is herself impossibly jet-set and glamorous (when Grazia rang she was holidaying on her BOAT, 'we're cruising towards Formentera and Ibiza - heaven!' *jealous*), to find out how she ended up dressing Angelina.
Turns out Ms Jolie's appearance in the gown is the end of a long, agonising wait for Wakeley, 'the dress has been with her for a few weeks in LA, as a good possibility for her to wear to the Emmy's,' although the designer admits, as many designers have had to over the years; 'there are never any guarantees.' Maybe not, except with a dress this gorgeous - because, as it turns out, Jolie couldn't wait until the awards show later this month to wear the gown, which appeared on the catwalk as part of Amanda Wakeley's A/W'10 collection.
For Wakeley, who is taking a break before presenting her 'tribal' themed S/S'11 collection in September, Jolie is the perfect ambassador for her designs; 'Angelina is probably one of the most beautiful women in the world. She not only has an amazing body, but great grace and poise. And I love the fact that she wore her hair soft and informal with this dress. It made the whole look innately sexy and approachable.."
Hard to argue with that...
Grazia Daily agrees that Angelina did the designer proud. Doesn't she look like an ethereal mermaid thanks to the gown's shimmering metallic embellishments and delicate layers? The actress opted to clinch her waist with a pale pink waistband rather than the black silk version worn on the catwalk to keep the look super-feminine and really amplify the elegant draping - wise move, we say.
What do you think of Angelina's dress?
