Luella's BACK!!!

16 August 2010

Just last week, Grazia Daily was drooling over the endlessly Luella-y wardrobe of our new beauty intern Angelica (yes, our INTERN WEARS LUELLA, grrr), and thinking what a big gaping hole Ms Bartley's fun, unapologetically-feminine clothes had left in the fashion universe.

If, like us, you've been suffering from Luella withdrawal symptoms, then Grazia Daily is delighted to be able to give you the latest news  - she's back!

Okay, she's not back with a fashion label (yet - but we'll keep praying), but we have received an exciting announcement that the former fashion journalist is writing a book - Luella's Guide to English Style, in which she 'celebrates English style and explains how to acquire it'. The designer, whose own English style credentials including referencing such Brit classics as The Clash, and erm, ponies; created a best-selling bag (the 'Gisele') for Mulberry, and being voted Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in 2008, as well as being BFFs with all of the UK's top fashion talents, including Katie Grand and Stella McCartney (they were all photographed together on the cover of the debut issue of Pop magazine, remember?). So yeah, she should know a thing or two about English style.

Claiming to be more about 'social anthropology' than style book, with plenty of "photographs, drawings and, occasionally, diagrams,' Bartley also takes in clubbing in Berlin and surfing in Cornwall (where the previously New York-based designer now lives, with her fashion photographer husband David Sims, and three brilliantly-named kids - Kip, Stevie and Ned).  Bartley attempts to answer the age-old question 'What makes English girls the coolest in the world?'. And investigates the allure of English fashion icons right across the style spectrum from Kate Moss to the Duchess of Devonshire.

The book was originally slated to be published in October 2008 (missed your deadline, much?) but apparently the designer got a little side-tracked. Let's hope that now the book is (presumably) finished, she'll have time to start focusing on getting back to designing. We've already had a glimpse of the cover - a super-trad embossed hardback with a flash of neon pink (sooo Luella). Hurry UP October!

Luella's Guide to English Style will be published 14 October for £20
