The launch of Bang, Marc Jacobs’ first menswear fragrance in over a decade, attracted an impressive line-up of A-listers to the 5fth Floor of Harvey Nichols last night.
As if the promise of partying with Marc wasn’t enough, the stars were also lured by the sounds of Scissor Sister Jake Shears on the decks as well as Madonna’s hunky Brazilian lover Jesus Luz - who got the crowd going with his missus' tune, Celebration. Don’t mind if we do.
Daisy Lowe, Jaime Winstone and Mischa Barton were having a girl’s night out but they headed off early complaining that it was too hot. But Beth Ditto, little Diana Vickers, Pixie Lott and Erin O’Connor all managed to keep their cool, even after checking out the posters for the new fragrance. If you’ve seen them already, you'll know that he’s taken a very, er, personal approach to its creation... The jaw-dropping posters feature a butt naked and buff Marc lying on a sheet of silver foil with nothing but a giant bottle of Bang covering his man bits. “More power to him if he’s got the balls to do it,” said Mischa. Well, quite!
Grazia Daily was admiring said poster as we arrived at the star-studded launch party when the man himself arrived (this time fully and impeccably dressed) so of course, we grabbed him for a quick chinwag. “I have worked really hard to change my lifestyle and get healthy so this is something I felt completely comfortable doing," he told us. "This fragrance is the most personal to me, obviously being in the ad, and I love the smell. It’s something I want to wear. We’ve had a bit of experience now working on fragrance, and me and Coty are on a roll.” And long may it continue!
As we reported on the day of the party, Courtney Love claimed that she and Kurt Cobain burnt an entire collection of Marc’s designs for Perry Ellis, which he gave to her in the 90’s. But Marc is having difficulty recalling actually sending her the items in the first place. “I don’t know if that’s really true but if she said that then I suppose it must be," the designer explained. "I don’t remember sending her anything from the Perry Ellis collection. I love Courtney and in the Marc Jacobs days of my life she has bought clothes and we have sent her things. I’m happy to do anything for Courtney, we have a long history together and I adore her.”
Hmmm, are we the only ones a bit confused by this?
