Here at Grazia Daily we have never tried to hide our (slightly out of control) love for blogger, fashion fan, and celebrity-stalker Perez Hilton. And we’re not just saying that because Mr Hilton is now, arguably, the Overlord of the Internet; his Perez Hilton and Coco Perez blogs now get 250 MILLION hits worldwide (that’s a quarter of BILLION, maths fans!)...yes, Master…*grovel, grovel*
So when Perez Hilton jetted into London a couple of weeks ago you can imagine how over-excited we were. The artist formerly known as Mario Armando Lavandeira, Jr. (yes..) was in town to host his “One Night In.. London” show at the O2, with performances from the likes of stylestuntwoman Kelis and breathy former Grazia model Diana Vickers.
Having flirted with some real London policemen, and held court backstage in the VIP area at the Wireless festival in Hyde Park, Perez headed to Mayfair’s ridiculously glossy celebrity hangout Movida, with Grazia Daily in tow.
And that Perez, he knows how to party: ordering Belvedere vodka and huge bottles of pink “Moet and Chandon Rose” champagne at £750 a pop; requesting tracks by Kylie to get everyone on the dancefloor, and not heading back to his hotel until the sun was coming up. Go, Perez!
But Grazia Daily’s favourite part of the night was when Movida screened special footage on giant plasmas around the club of Perez dressed up in numerous outfits – from a clown suit to a Teddy bear - doing some utterly preposterous dance moves.
And that gave us an idea. We’ve always loved it when the man behind Coco Perez acts as a special guest judge for us on our weekly You, The Fashion Jury feature, so we thought; why not get Perez to ‘fashion jury’ his own style moments over the years?
And here, complete with his trademark white doodles, are Perez’s thoughts on his - frankly, ridonkulous - wardrobe…
"Having fun on the streets of London this summer during gay pride. I thought that Hot Topic t-shirt was very appropriate!"
"I love color! I also love Moods of Norway. They made the shorts and jacket. I wore this to the MTV Video Music Awards last year. I had never done my hair like that before and I LOVED it. Super edgy! The yellow paint on my hands was a bit of a headache, though, and it got messy as the night wore on! Ha"
"I wore this to Marc Jacob's fashion show in New York City last September. Yes, that's my dog, Teddy Hilton, on my t-shirt. And he's adorable! I was going for a real downtown Manhattan vibe and I think I accomplished that. The pants were by Jeremy Scott for Adidas, inspired by Keith Harring. Doesn't get any more New York than that!"
"I wore this to the Brit Awards in February of 2008. Yes, the fur is fake and yes that is a Hello Kitty shower cap I'm wearing. Why not? Ha! A lot of the times, I wear really loud and crazy things on purpose because I'd rather make the worst dressed list than no list at all. And when you're a guy, you have to try that much harder to get noticed on the red carpet. Coverage usually favors what the women are wearing."
"I wore this to the American Music Awards in November. The suit is Moods Of Norway and I was going for an editorial look, from the super bleached hair to the darkened eyebrows and the chic suit. I love it!"
"Often times when I'm dressing myself for red carpet events, I ask: "What would Elton John wear?" I think he would wear that, which is why I wore those fun golf pants and the Ben Sherman jacket to Elton's Oscar party this year."
"Last Halloween I went as GaGa to Heidi Klum's annual party. And I actually had the people who make her clothes make my costume. Authentic! P.S. Walking around in those shoes was killer! Ladies, I feel for you!"
"I wore this to the MuchMusic Awards this year and I didn't expect it to look this good! I loved the Lily Pulitzer suit and I especially loved that I helped bring awareness to the World Wildlife Fund. All proceeds from the sale of that suit go to the WWF!"
"When I saw Katy Perry wear a blue wig at the MTV Movie Awards this June, I knew I had to wear one too! Everybody would be talking about "Who wore it better?" or "Is blue hair in?" And they did! It worked! The suit is Moods of Norway and I wore it to the Logo Awards a few weeks after Katy rocker her blue wig."
"Like a floral shop threw up on me! I was inspired by Andy Warhol for this look. Yes, that's a wig I'm wearing. The jacket and pants are Moods of Norway and the boots are Dr Marten's. I wore this when I spent this past New Year's Eve with GaGa in MIami."
"So dapper! I had this suit custom-made for my birthday party this year. It fit so well! Look at how skinny and fabulous I look! Ha"
