What better way to begin last night’s selection of Best Dressers than with a very British afternoon tea party courtesy of Burberry. Ok, so the shindig was held in the not-so-British land of Beverly Hills and was rammed with Hollywood A-listers so hurrah for Mr Gent himself, Christopher Bailey, who was on hand to bring enough Englishness for the whole gang. In fact, it was all in celebration of the brand’s sumptuous new make-up line, Beauty, and in true Burberry style, the attendees adhered to that classic-yet-modern predilection. Par exemple: the effervescent Kate Bosworth. She kept it lady-like in this nude Pre-Fall 2010 dress covered in ruched floral lace, clinched with a Burbs-esque belt – all she needs is a dainty tea cup and she’s good to go. Lake Bell’s outfit was also noteworthy, especially as she successfully toned down all that lace and and bosom-enhancing sexiness with a mussed-up ‘do and minimal accessories.
Speaking of Brit cool, here’s the epitome of the very thing: Florence Welch. The flame-haired singer was larking about the Bret Easton Ellis book launch party in London last night (we are super-excited about Grazia's Book Club event tonight, sadly now all sold out, where Brett himself will be discussing his book in front of a captivated audience of Grazia readers). Anyway, back to the fashion - and as you can see, La Welch was displaying her trademark eccentricity in a ruffled blouse tucked into beautiful brown suede shorts. How come we can never find such beauties during our vintage store trawls? Not fair. >scowls<
Goodness gracious, are the Gossip Girl delights never ending? We awoke this morning to two more treats for your viewing pleasure on the backs of Clemence Poesy and Blake Lively. This time, both fashionable femmes are getting swooshy with their patterned floor-length gowns but we reckon Clem’s got the upper hand. Why? Well, once again she’s kept the jewels to a minimum, has stuck to paired-down beauty and as a result, exudes an air of laid-back elegance.
On the other end of the sartorial spectrum, we have Ms Lively, or rather aka Serena Vanderwoodsen who’s never one to skimp on the full-blown glam factor. Because not only does she have a billowing train cascading from that dual-length hemline on her Jenny Packham A/W '10 gown (of course she’s not going to hide those legs away, silly), the blonde goddess also has her magnificent cleavage on display, framed as it is by sparkling blue crystals embellishments to match her glittery heels. A tad overkill, you say? Never!
