Introducing the Hilfigers - our fave fashion family!

 

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to your American lesson.

We’ve just sat down to ponder the latest Tommy Hilfiger campaign and we’ve come unstuck with a spot of the vocabulary.

Let have a look.

“The fall campaign unfolds on an American football field where the Hilfigers have gathered prior to a game. In true American tradition, their trunks are opened, blankets unfurled, picnics appear and the ultimate tailgate party commences.”

What the . . . . ?!? ?

Fall, we know. Game – that must be American football. Easy. The trunks are opened – aha! That means the boot, no? picnics, yes yes. . . But the ultimate tailgate party? We couldn’t find the British equivalent of this because we don’t have such a thing. Apparently, it’s a big outdoor picnic/barbecue/pre-sporting event event, so to speak.  Everyone gets together for a pre-match party, but they are all in a huge public space and they are all still in their cars. (?)

We love learning new things. And, we LOOOVE the styling of the campaign even more. Mmmm, we’ve come over all preppy with a twist.

And another thing. Now we’ve been staring at these, we not only want to purchase some Hilfiger goodies, but want to watch The Royal Tenenbaums from start to finish. Here’s a taster.
