It’s a net-a-party! The world’s favourite fashion e-tailer, netaporter.com, threw a wonderful do last night to celebrate its 10th birthday, and naturally, Grazia was there like a shot, alongside a parade of fashion designers and celebrity fans of the site.
First of all, if you think the net-a-porter site is stylish, wait ‘til you see its head office (even the Grazia girls turned a very-Chanel shade of jade with envy). Net’s superslick HQ, in Westfield shopping centre was the venue for the bash, and the black, white and grey interiors (black chandeliers, white loungey lampshades, white leather banquettes) were, as you might expect, totally ahead of the curve for next season’s hot minimalism trend. The Patron bar served the ultra-premium Patron Margarita - a fusion of the luxury white spirit Patron Silver and Patron Citronage over ice with freshly squeezed lime juice.
The glossy monochrome space made the perfect backdrop for the requested dress code “summer cocktail chic” – see Amber Le Bon in colourful Emporio Armani, Jade Parfitt, wearing a gorgeous cream and black minidress by Temperley, and Victoria Beckham in a silver sequinned skirt and white silk tank top from Miu Miu's Resort 2010 collection.
Meanwhile, the crowds of sexily be-suited menfolk were installed in the ‘men’s den’ a room with a giant plasma screen showing last night’s match (which was football, apparently). The won’t be such fashion philistines after Mr Porter (net’s forthcoming menswear site) launches.
Another fun idea – the flickerbook photobooth! Just stand in front of the white backdrop, get animated and a camera will capture your series of moves, before a genius printer pops out a mini-flickerbook!
Grazia, however, was playing a different game, namely: asking celebrities if they could remember their first, and most recent purchases from the iconic fashion site.
Starting with Natalie Massenet, Ms Net A Porter, herself
First purchase “a pair of Jimmy Choo kitten heel shoes. I didn’t have any money for a really long time, so they were a really big deal for me. I still have them, I never throw anything away! And I only have a really small closet so I have to be really organised and changeover from Spring to Summer.”
Most recent purchase “that would be my dress tonight, which is by Valentino, which I bought last week. I thought I would wear something with sequin ‘dots’ for, you know - dot com”
First purchase “a Rick Owens leather jacket, only three years ago... I’m generally not very good with technology”
Most recent purchase “A green Stella McCartney dress last month – it’s like a casual summer dress, that works for day or night”
First purchase “Falke tights! The site was one of the first to stock the brand online and it always has the best selection.”
Most recent purchase “last weekend! A really hot asymmetrical dress by Emilio de la Morena – a black pleated silk number.”
First purchase “it was six years ago – a cream sheer little blouse by Chloe.”
Most recent purchase “It was probably about a year ago because I’m trying to be really good, a pair of Christian Louboutin black patent peep toe shoes.”
First purchase “about seven years ago! A cream lace dress by Matthew Williamson”
Most recent purchase “well, because I love my vintage, I order lots of accessories. My most recent purchase was these black strappy Donna Karan sandals.”
And finally did Grazia Daily’s own Kiki Georgiou have the most recent recent purchase? “I ordered these Martin Margiela grey leather court shoes (in the Sale!) just this morning, and now I’m wearing them tonight!”
Ah, the joys of shopping on net-a-porter!
Next time we’re going to order something FABULOUS and get it delivered AT the party…
