Remember how when you were thirteen you thought that EVERYONE was cooler than your own parents? Well, it seems as if that might be a universal truth and not a result of our own mother’s predilection for inappropriate footwear, because Lourdes 'Lola' Leon has apparently eschewed mommy Madonna as a style icon in favour of lovely Agyness Deyn.
As the budding designer eagerly awaits the debut of her new Material Girl range in Macy’s on August 3rd, rumours are abound that she’s eyeing up her style inspiration to front the new collection as she apparently loves Aggy’s effortless grungy aesthetic and laid-back chic. Well, Amen to that sister – so do we!
This is actually one fashion collab which we can totally see working; these two have a super-similar style, both being major exponents of the grungy 80’s vibe which Aggy is famous for and which Lola described as being a “huge obsession of mine” on her blog last week. (Oversized geeky glasses? Check. 80s black leather jackets over cute dresses? Check.) In fact short of, you know, Lola or Madonna herself, we can’t think of a better face for Material Girl than Miss Deyn.
So who knows – perhaps this will be the start of a fashion friendship more long lasting than Mossy and James Brown. In fact Lola posted on her blog last week that she is “finally allowed to dye my hair” once she turns 14 in October. We’re guessing a peroxide crop isn’t included in that deal, Madonna?
