MORE RESORT! Christopher Kane & Miu Miu

29 June 2010

YAY! And Brill skills!
We’ve been lapping up the resort shows all month but when we got the news of the Christopher Kane and Miu Miu shows (at last! what took them soo long?) on the wire today we did a little dance at our desk! Firstly our own Brit wonderboy, Christopher Kane has come out with selection of intergalactic printed delights that recall his earlier collections following the textile experiments of his last two collections.
His SS10 look (being modelled by all his trendy followers, Daisy Lowe, Jessica Alba en ce moment) was a riff on the theme of gingham while for AW11 turned to another neglected craft – intense embroidery, albeit on a backdrop of dominatrix style black leather.

Wowsers! Maribou trimmed shoes!

It's doubtless down to Mr Kane’s influence through his Versus collection that so many of us are wearing little waist-emphasising dresses and high-waisted extreme A-line skirts at the moment and this collection carries on pushing out this girly silhouette whilst evolving the photographic prints that made his name. Only this time he is working with stars in the night sky and smudgy, smoky abstracts. We also LOVE the high-waisted super-wide-leg leather trousers, and just KNOW they’ll be as flattering for those of us not quite as blessed in the leg/hip department as the catwalk models.

Meanwhile, over at Miu Miu, Miuccia showed us a glimpse of the shape to come, in what could only be described as ‘cartoon secretary’ style. The ultra elegance of midi-length slightly flared skirts with high waists and tucked-in beautiful blouses are rendered in bonkers Spongebob colours like jade green, swimming pool turquoise and white. Those sell-out fabric covered, printed platforms have made another appearance, to the delight of the Miu Miu tribe. This collection’s trademark happy prints are childish love hearts, this time with matching jangley Patricia Arquette style plastic earrings and bangles. WE LOVE! As usual, Mrs Prada is a season ahead of everyone else, but we don’t have too much trouble imagining ourselves wandering around in high waists and long tailored skirts next year  – even if we have to open a cab account as there’ll be no way to run for a bus in one of those! Or maybe we could get up earlier and do a Geisha walk to the bus stop... Decisions, decisions
