A corset/petticoat inspired look from Jean Paul Gaultier's couture SS10 collection
Brilliant! When certain news reaches us, we think; "hmmm that makes so much sense we can’t even believe it wasn’t the case already!" Exactly how we felt when we learned that Jean Paul Gaultier has signed up with luxury lingerie firm La Perla. Mr Gaultier has been sending underwear-inspired looks down the catwalk for nearly 30 years now, including corsets tops and dresses, suspender belts on the outside and, most infamously of all, Madonna’s Blonde Ambition era cone bra.

It’s a theme in fashion that has echoed throughout the generations, with designers John Galliano, Dolce & Gabbana, and lately Antonio Berardi all making underpinnings part of their trademark looks. With pin-up icon Bettie Page the fashion muse of the moment, and Gaga, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Kylie & co making lingerie fashion mainstream (even TopShop sells big pants) this is totally the perfect time for this JPG/La Perla collection.

La Perla chief executive Alain Prost commented on the collaboration, saying “I met Jean Paul Gaultier a few months ago, and we immediately hit it off because we shared a common vision of beauty, style, taste and quality. So we agreed to try this adventure together and unite our savoir faire,” said Prost.
The range will include includes a waist-cincher corset, extra-high briefs and a bodysuit and bras inspired by the famous cone style. It’ll be available from November in selected department stores and prices will start at around £400. Question is, will the fancy pants be too good to keep hidden or will we wearing our JPG pieces as outerwear instead? Well, with the mix of La Perla and JPG why hide it???
