The resort collections have been serving as a total highlight of our summer. We are such fashion-forward mavens here we want to be getting tips for next summers looks now.  But not all resort collections are about a pre-cursor to the spring/summer season; sometimes they are about event dressing for Christmas and the film awards season.  This is the safe route taken by Sarah Burton, the new creative director of Alexander McQueen whose promotion to the position was announced in May. At the time she said: “The creation of modern beautifully crafted clothes was at the heart of Lee’s vision. I intend to stay true to his legacy.”

Sarah, 35, has worked for McQueen since even before she graduated from St Martins and the designer is slowly exercising her control over the brand she has made her life’s work so far.  This first collection represents the beginning of a new era for the McQueen brand. Looking at the eight looks she has created for Resort Spring 11 the McQueen signatures are so strong, it serves to remind even more that he is no longer here himself.  Somehow, though, the waterfall elegance of the pale rose pink corseted evening dress and even the cut of a businesslike Prince of Wales check dress have a welcome femininity that makes them very desirable indeed. We see a solid future for this brand. Four our monet we totally love the trouser look; that armoured top is fiercely beautiful.
