Talk about girls rule ok! Australia has only just got its first female prime minister and now the government is endorsing a voluntary code of conduct encouraging fashion magazines, fashion brands, retailers and modelling agencies to adopt a body image standard. Revealed by youth minister Kate Ellis, a new friendly body image logo will be awarded to those who comply as advised by the government’s Body Image Advisory Group, which includes Australia’s Next Top Model host Sarah Murdoch. The board suggests disclosure of digital enhancement of images, avoiding the use of ultra-thin models or overly muscular male models, working with a better diversity of body sizes and ethnicities and steering clear of advertising or editorial that promotes weight loss, cosmetic surgery or negative body image. We say hurrah to that!
