When legendary fashion house Vionnet re-launched with a stunning resort collection at the beginning of this year under the helm of Rodolfo Paglialuna, previously at Prada, there was a collective sigh of relief from the fashion industry. At last the successful renaissance of a prestigious and utterly gorgeous French label. Renowned for sinuous, ethereal, bias cut and knife pleated gowns, Madeleine Vionnet, along with Coco Chanel and Paul Poiret, was a pioneer of new silhouettes at a time when strictly corseting yourself was still the uncomfortable norm. So naturally, with Vionnet’s revolutionary spirit, us feisty Grazia girls and plenty of strong female A-listers (Audrey Tautou, Tilda Swinton and Carey Mulligan to name but a few) have become firm fans in 2010.
And the news came through today to cement Vionnet’s new rising must-have luxury status. The king of catwalk shoes, Giuseppe Zanotti (he of the Balmain studded gladiators craze) has been signed up to design Vionnet’s shoes, beginning with spring/summer 2011. True, that’s an incroyable amount of time to wait, but this delicious sneaky peek of the collection is a good indication of what’s to come in the shoe-world over the next year.
Think luxurious, elegant and ladylike, slim stilettos in neutrals with soft almond-shape toes, which will no doubt make it onto the feet of many a fashion forward grown-up girl. As the designer says himself, his eponynous brand and Vionnet, “share the same passion and commitment to feminine elegance, unique design and superior craftsmanship.” Sounds good, huh? We want them NOW Mr Zanotti!
