Congratulations to SIR John Galliano

24 June 2010

We are always thrilled when great designers are recognized – and the French government seem to be very conscious of the fashion community when it comes to serving up awards. The latest designer to receive the prestigious Chevalier of the Legion of Honour was John Galliano!

Although Londoners still feel he is one of us, he has been in Paris for so long now, from where he runs Christian Dior as well as his own line. He was first scooped up by Bernard Arnault in 1995— the head of LVMH Moët Hennessy made him designer for Givenchy, then later Christian Dior where he has reigned ever since.

The ceremony for the award was a real who’s who of team Galliano. Milliner Stephen Jones and DJ Jeremy Healy, creator of extraordinary sets, Michael Howell and model Scott Barnhill as well as Kate Moss, (in Dior, of course) plus the hairstylists Odile Gilbert and Julien d’Ys and makeup artist Pat McGrath who are all responsible for the amazing polish of his theatrical catwalk spectacles.

Everyone was in congratulatory mood – from President Sarkozy reminding John about his rep as an ‘enfant terrible’ to Kate Moss gushing “He talk me how to walk when I was 14!” to the designer dandy graciously accepting his medal with the words “I am honored and humbled to receive this award that I share with you all,”
