Anna’s Bodyguards CARRY her out of shows!

After hearing that John Galliano works out at the gym in a top hat, we didn’t think there could be any fashion stories that could possibly make us as happy ever again. And yet today, a story has reached us that may even have topped Mr G’s top hat workout.

Tim Gunn, ex-Project Runway judge and ‘fashion consultant’, has just written a style book: Gunn's Golden Rules: Life's Little Instructions For Making It Work. It contains this fabulous gem of gossip from back in 2006, when Gunn was at a Peter Som show in New York, where he claims he witnessed Anna Wintour - being carried out by her bodyguards! Take it away, Tim..

"I was with a colleague from Parsons, and we had been discussing the will-she-or-won't-she-take-the-elevator question, so we ran over to the elevator bay to see if Anna would deign to get on. She wasn't there. Then we looked over the stairway railing. And what did we see but Anna being carried down the stairs. The bodyguards had made a fireman's lock and were racing her from landing to landing. She was sitting on their crossed arms.. I ran to the window to see if they would put her down on the sidewalk or carry her to the car like that. They carried her to the car. And I thought: I will never forget this."

Nor will we, Tim, nor will we...

Quite frankly, this anecdote alone is worth the price of the book, (currently £15.43 on Amazon, ladies). But, there’s more - and it’s about Andre Leon Talley! Gunn writes that he once saw ALT at a panel discussion taking place at the New York Public Library....

"When we return to the green room, we see that someone has spread a translucent barber's bib over Andre and he's reclining, his arms at his sides. He's being fed grapes and cubes of cheese one by one, like a bird in a nest."

Naturally, Conde Nast’s in-house party poopers have been quick to label Gunn’s imagination as "very vivid”, but we don’t give a hoot.

Sorry, Mr Galliano, but you’ve got some serious competition now.
