Guess what? There's a Plus Size Fashion Week! Yes! The second annual Fuller Figure Fashion Week, is now halfway through it's four day schedule in New York, which includes includes catwalk presentations, discussions, and the inevitable model search contest to find The Face of Fuller Figure Fashion Week.
The Cut blog reports that this year's event "boasts 35 sponsors, up from 7 last year, while runway shows are drawing crowds of around 300". And the show's founder Gwen DeVoe says plus size consumers are now spending a collective $25m on clothing each year. The (already sold out) finale catwalk show will feature clothes by former Project Runway contestant Qristyl Frazier, and an awards ceremony tonight will honour America's Next Top Model winner Whitney Thompson, who was the first plus sized model to win the contest and is now a Face of Cover Girl cosmetics, on the books of top model agency Elite, and an ambassador for the National Eating Disorders Association.
Anyway, this sounds like a very positive development on the Fashion Week circuit and we'll keep monitoring this with interest. In the meantime we'll occupy ourselves by wondering why FFF Week (as it's known) has to be separate from New York Fashion Week?
Oh, and we're also kind of warming to FFF Week founder Gwen DeVoe. You can watch her below, responding to Britain's Next Top Model's judge Julien Macdonald's recent comments, in which he called plus-size models a joke...
