Next in our continuing - and admittedly, slightly self-serving series - 'Fashionistas are the new A-listers', we present: Anna Della Russo - the smash-hit T shirt range...
Yes, over the weekend, mega e-tailer Yoox.com launched a collection of T-shirts emblazoned with images of the unstoppable style stunt woman herself, modelling her top ten favourite outfits of all time. Crazy idea, right? Like, we love the catwalk-tastic fashion fanatic as much as the next gawper, but really? Her own line of T-shirts?
That the Fashion Director at Large and Creative Consultant of VOGUE NIPPON is deemed worthy, or indeed well known enough, to be given the chance to design her own range of T shirts (yes, they are her own creation), called J'ADR X 10, fits right in with the recent events such as the launch of Industrie, a magazine solely dedicated to "the culture of fashion" i.e. covering the lives and views of fashion industry players from Anna Wintour to Natalie Massenet (and many more obscure names in between); the rise and rise of the frankly genius Business of Fashion blog (Nick Knight is a fan); as well as last week's rumours that fashion editor (and Lady Gaga stylist) Nicola Formichetti, (he's Creative Director for Dazed & Confused magazine and Senior Fashion Editor of Another Man magazine), was being considered to take over as designer at Thierry Mugler.
Anyway, back to the Anna Della Russo and those T shirts. Apparently the idea is not as crazy as we thought. Yoox.com reported that the T shirts sold out in less than 48 hours. Take that - real fashion designers!
(PS The irony of course, is that ADR soo not a T shirts kinda gal - unless it's a £8000 Balmain tee....).
